Happy Easter! Sorry for the delay in posts - I've been in Madrid for the past five days. To acknowledge the Easter break, today's spark word is the homonym 'break'.
broken
i snapped the bones in my
left and right wrists
playing when a kid
despite tears and a loud cry
the swelling was missed.
no one believed what i did.

Unbrokenness
There exists within physical things
the potential to be broken.
It is only a matter of time
and of unforeseen circumstances.
These things can be repaired, replaced
or buried and forgotten about.
Nothing can ever be unbroken.
Fire break
When our tempers rage
Like hot veld* fires
Consuming all in sight
Without tasting it;
As our fiery tongues
Suck goodness dry
Turning the landscape black,
The air grey with ash;
You are there, between us -
Our fire break;
Keeping us from reaching
Each other's throats
You stand still, as anger
Swirls around you;
Never stepping forward,
Nor an inch back.
*veld - the Afrikaans word for field/meadow, pronounced 'felt'
Unskilled Poet, I just want to make sure you're still alive. Or have you died a sad but poetic death?
Hahaha! No, I'm still here, I'm just writing a novel and my poetry is being neglected as a result.
I'll try to get a new poem up soon, but I don't know that I'm going to be able to do it daily like I was. Hopefully a few times a week, depending on work, holidays, other writing. I hope this is okay!
Hmmm... I guess that will have to do.
Kidding - it's your blog, guy. Hope the novel's going well. I'm trying to get started on my granddad's memoirs. More complex than I thought.
Good luck. Look forward to the next poem.
Hi, it's been a while since I've been here, but I'm interested in participating in your challenges whenever my schedule allows. Please give me a shout as soon as you get a chance.
Thanks.
Awesome blog you have introduced.
